Locks & Closures
Custom handbag locks and closures
Locks and closures are part of a bag's identity as well as its function. Zhenglin develops turn locks, push locks and decorative closures around the bag structure, opening action, visible proportion and finish direction.

Photographs are design references. Confirm dimensions, material, finish and availability against the current drawing and sample.
Product structure
Start with the finished bag, not only the hardware shape.
Show the component in context so the design review can cover fit, function, visible proportion and the way the hardware connects to leather, lining, webbing or another metal part.
Flap bags
For flap bags, the closure must align with the front panel, inner plate, reinforcement and mating part. Show the flap thickness, closure position and opening action.
Structured handbags
Share the front and back construction, reinforcement method and surrounding leather or lining thickness so the visible footprint and mounting route can be reviewed.
Compact and crossbody bags
Confirm available clearance, opening direction, strap position and whether the closure may contact nearby components during use.
Decorative closures
Confirm the visible face, proportions, logo or decorative treatment separately from the functional mechanism.
Specification review
Define the lock and its mating parts together.
Use the current drawing revision and identify the dimensions that control fit. Set tolerances with the manufacturing route and surface finish in view.
| Decision | What to specify | What to check on the sample |
|---|---|---|
| Opening action | Insert, twist or clasp action; release direction and space for fingers. | Check engagement and release with the complete mating assembly. |
| Mounting dimensions | Hole or post centres, backplate footprint and fastener access. | Measure against the current drawing and assembled bag panel. |
| Panel stack | Leather, lining and reinforcement thickness at the mounting point. | Check that attachment length suits the stack without damaging the lining. |
| Clearance | Latch travel, flap alignment and nearby seams or metal parts. | Operate the closure on a representative bag assembly. |
| Visible finish | Colour sample, polished or textured faces, edges and matching components. | Approve the actual lock and mating piece as a set. |
Material and finish
Approve the material, surface and assembled part together.
Zinc-alloy die casting is Zhenglin's primary route for custom hardware. Material selection also depends on the shape, mounting and expected use. Read the zinc alloy and stainless steel comparison before fixing the specification.
Share a physical colour reference and identify the matching hardware. Confirm the coating process on the intended material with the finish approval guide.
Sample acceptance
- Repeated operationAgree the cycle count, operating method and acceptable change in engagement or opening feel.
- Retention in useDefine load direction and packed-bag movement conditions. Inspect the lock, mounting and surrounding panel together.
- Appearance after assemblyCheck scratches, exposed edges and finish consistency on both halves of the closure.
What to send
Give the first review enough context.
- Drawing or referenceCurrent drawing, reference image or sample, with revision where available.
- Critical dimensionsInterface size, material thickness, clearance, hole or post position and any fit dimension.
- FunctionWhat the part must lock, attach, adjust, rotate, support or decorate.
- Finish directionColour, physical sample, visible surfaces and matching hardware.
- QuantityExpected sample quantity, first order and repeat program where known.
Sampling and tooling
Move from design intent to repeatable production.
- Design reviewReview dimensions, structure, function, assembly and finish intent.
- SamplingSelect a sample route that answers the first question: proportion, visible form, interface or function.
- Tooling and trialAfter geometry approval, translate the design toward repeatable tooling and trial production.
- Finish approvalConfirm colour, surface appearance and visible edges on the intended part.
- Production and assemblyReview the confirmed component and required assembly method for the program.

Tooling, finish and production conditions are confirmed for each project.
Purchasing questions
Before requesting a quotation
Can I develop a lock from a reference sample?
Yes. Send front, back and side views, the intended opening action and the bag-panel construction. A sample helps establish a direction; the approved drawing defines the part to manufacture.
Can the same lock fit different leather thicknesses?
That needs a mounting review. Post length, backplate, reinforcement and fasteners must suit each material stack. Identify every thickness variant before approving tooling.
What is the minimum order quantity?
MOQ starts from 500 pieces. Confirm the quantity for each design and finish in your inquiry; sample quantities and the production order are discussed separately.
How are tooling costs and lead times confirmed?
Send the drawing or reference, finish and quantity. The quotation should separate tooling, samples and production, with timing linked to the approved design, sample route and finish requirements.
Request a locks & closures quotation
